From Idea to Reality: What Actually Happens During Your Coin's Production Timeline
Once you approve a final design, your coin isn't finished. It's just getting started. Here's what happens between approval and the box on your doorstep.

First, mold and die creation: your approved artwork gets engineered into a physical die, the tool that actually stamps your design into metal. Next, striking: the die presses your design into blank metal coins, giving every piece its raised and recessed detail before any color goes on. Then plating, in your chosen finish, which is also what gives the metal its shine and durability. If your design includes color, enamel is applied by hand into the recessed detail, then cured.
Every coin gets a quality check before it's packaged. This is where anything that doesn't meet the standard gets caught before it reaches you. Finally, packaging and shipping: coins go into a protective case (a PVC pouch is included standard) and ship out.
Some important points worth sharing here. As the producer, I can ask the manufacturer for a quicker turnaround, and sometimes they can deliver one. But there's a hurdle nobody can manipulate: getting goods through customs and into the United States. Customers often ask why it takes 4 to 6 weeks. Here's why. Customs inspections, inspection backlogs, and staffing shortages mean freight can get rerouted for inspection with no warning.
For example, on a moral coin I designed and produced for the 15th SOAMXS at Hurlburt Field, the shipment bounced from the west coast to the east coast to the Midwest across several sorting facilities before it finally arrived. That was an extra 13 days inside the U.S. alone. I track every inbound shipment I have, and I still can never get a clear, direct answer out of FedEx, UPS, or DHL about why. So I build in a two-week padding window on every delivery estimate I give you.
Start to finish, this typically runs 4 to 6 weeks, including shipping, though that can shift with seasonal demand or material availability. If you've got a hard date, tell me upfront. I will always do everything I can to hit it.
